About the role

The Cleansing services unit is responsible for the cleanliness of the city through a range of functions including, emptying litter bins, sweeping roads & footpaths, pressure washing, collecting dumped rubbish, litter collection, street furniture cleaning and other general cleaning duties.

As a Street Cleansing Attendant/Driver Operator you will play a significant role in delivering a range of cleaning services throughout the city, at times in timeframes outside the normal span of hours.

The primary objectives of the position are to:

  • Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the city by operating cleansing unit plant/equipment and undertaking a range of general cleaning and associated tasks in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Supervise and/or assist in training of other cleansing team members or agency hire staff as required.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the following: 

· Certificate III or IV in Cleansing, Waste or related industry-based training course or equivalent relevant experience in the cleansing and/or waste industry.

· Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of medium and heavy mechanical plant and equipment in a safe and efficient manner and to undertake routine daily maintenance of minor plant and equipment.

· Demonstrated ability to work diligently and enthusiastically under general supervision in order to meet desired service outcomes.

· Demonstrated reliability and punctuality and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

· Demonstrated ability to communicate with the public in a clear and courteous manner, in order to present a positive image for Council along with basic administrative andcomputerskills.

· Demonstrated ability to work in adverse weather conditions and on a roster system which includes weekends, public holidays and daily shifts that may be scheduled over a 24-hour day.

· A current valid [and ongoing] Victorian Drivers licence, with HR classification/endorsement and satisfactory [and ongoing]Police check and working with childrensupplied prior to offer of employment and commencement.

You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.

The successful candidate will be asked to produce a clear Working with Children Check and will be asked toconsent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
