The central activities district is Melbourne's second largest retail and commercial centre and includes large shopping complexes at Dandenong and Keysborough as well as the highly popular Dandenong Market.

Greater Dandenong City Council is the most culturally diverse locality in Australia, with residents from over 150 different birthplaces, nearly two-thirds of whom were born overseas. Key industries include manufacturing, health care and social assistance, retail trade, wholesale trade and transport.

We are a progressive organisation of exceptional character that offers a dynamic and rewarding work environment to approximately 900 employees. We recognise that our staff are vital to the delivery of excellent service to our community and the achievement of our long-term vision. We invest in the development of our people, and we strive to be a workplace that is respectful, engaged, accountable, creative and honest.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our new Cultural and Community Hub team, where you will play a key role in driving business growth and operational excellence across a diverse portfolio of civic and community facilities. This role is essential in ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery that aligns with the Council for Greater Dandenong’s strategic and cultural objectives.

As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for optimising how our spaces are used, balancing community access with commercial outcomes. Your ability to coordinate schedules, analyse usage data, and refine booking processes will help maximise venue performance and support long-term sustainability.

You will also be the main point of contact for clients and community groups, providing responsive, customer-focused service. By building strong relationships with stakeholders and supporting inclusive access to our venues, you’ll help foster a vibrant, engaged community.

Beyond day-to-day operations, this role has a strong business development focus. You’ll identify new opportunities for venue hire, nurture partnerships, and contribute to financial management through accurate record-keeping and budget support. Your work will directly influence the growth and success of our facilities.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Proven experience in implementing strategic plans to improve venue operations and drive business development, or completion of a relevant degree or diploma with applicable work experience.
  • Ability to align venue operations with organisational objectives and support performance outcomes for business development teams.
  • A strong track record in attracting and retaining clients, building new partnerships, and delivering effective marketing strategies to increase venue hire.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive relationships with clients and stakeholders, resulting in increased bookings and community engagement.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies that enhance community access to venues, including collaboration with diverse groups to meet local needs.
  • Ability to manage event scheduling, consult with clients on venue agreements, and ensure compliance with licensing, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Excellent client liaison and coordination skills, including handling bookings and enquiries, working with technical teams, and managing contractor inductions.
  • Proficiency in financial administration, including budget management, invoicing, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Strong administrative and systems capabilities, with experience using booking systems, building management tools, and event-related technologies.

Please ensure you address the key selection criteria outlined in the position description as part of your application.
