About the Role

As a Senior Economic Development Officer within the Business and Employment Unit, you will contribute to the success of the Economy and Place Strategy.

This includes leading the marketing and communications efforts for the team while contributing to the creation and execution of projects aimed at fostering economic growth, investment, and job creation. In this position, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the region’s economic future, ensuring effective communication and engagement with key stakeholders, and enhancing the visibility of economic development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the effective operation of the Business and Employment Unit through the implementation of Economy and Place Strategy.
  • Identify, develop, and implement projects, events and initiatives that contribute to economic growth within the municipality and region.
  • Manage the production of Council publications and lead and advise the team on how their activities, programs and services can best be communicated and marketed. Manage, prepare, coordinate and disseminate a range of communications to internal and external audiences.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with key industry stakeholders to support programs and services aimed at achieving positive economic development outcomes.
  • Provide timely and relevant market intelligence and advice on industry trends and economic matters.


About You

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding

We are seeking an experienced professional with a background in economic development, business growth, or marketing and communications. You should have strong project management and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and manage multiple priorities. A solid understanding of economic trends and regional development, along with tertiary qualifications in relevant fields, is essential. Experience in preparing reports, publications, and promotional content is also highly desirable.

Key Qualifications & Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in economic development, marketing and communications to support business development and growth.
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of economic development principles and regional economic trends.
  • Tertiary qualifications in economic development, business, marketing or a related field (additional qualifications in project management or communications are a plus).
  • Proven ability to prepare reports and promotional content for diverse audiences.

You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.

The successful candidate will be asked to produce a valid Victorian Drivers licence and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
