About the role

The City of Greater Dandenong is undertaking a major transformation of its Parks Services Department, and are excited to offer a newly created leadership role that will shape the future delivery of the city’s Parks Services and maintenance of open space assets. As part of a broader restructure, this is a rare opportunity to join the team at a pivotal moment—bringing fresh energy, ideas and leadership to a team committed to delivering high-quality parks and open space outcomes for the community.

This high-profile role will be responsible for leading the strategy and policy development, planning and maintenance activities relating to Parks Services. You’ll lead a team of approximately 75 operational staff to deliver a wide range of services across four key areas - City Presentation, Active Parks, Urban Forest & Conservation – and maintain a wide range of working relationships with internal stakeholders, community groups and government agencies. This is a critical role in defining the perceptions of Council through engagement with residents.

About you


You are an experienced Parks and Open Space professional and natural leader with a strong passion for working with others to deliver innovative and industry leading high-quality outcomes for the community.

You’re ready to implement the Parks Service Department restructure and shape a new team within a complex local government setting. You’re confident working with councillors, community members, and internal teams, and have a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to service delivery.

Key requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • Substantial experience in managing open space and sports ground management, horticulture, landscape and natural resources
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage the Parks Service Department
  • Accountable for the forward planning, financial planning, program development and implementation
  • To pro-actively plan and implement operational strategies, plans, projects, policies, and programs
  • Actively participate in achieving City Futures Directorate objectives
