A great opportunity now exists for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to lead and implement the City of Greater Dandenong's strategic focus across the key areas of both Health and Safety, and Workover.
Working closely with a newly formed executive team and leaders across the organisation, this is a key strategic leadership role, responsible for managing a team specialising in OHS and Workcover where you will provide expert strategic and operational advice. Your role includes developing initiatives, systems and programs of work fostering a safety culture through leadership development and risk management.
With a focus on designing and implementing industry-leading safety systems, you'll be dedicated to continuous improvement and achieving measurable outcomes in a dynamic environment consistent with various compliance requirements.
You will provide direction to injury and claims management through proactive interventions and effective return-to-work programs. Your expertise will drive a safety-first mindset, fostering a supportive work culture and leading positive change to shape a strong safety culture for the City of Greater Dandenong.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead OHS Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive OHS and Workcover strategies.
- Ensure Compliance: Oversee adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and council policies, ensuring the safety of our staff and community.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess and mitigate potential safety risks across all council operations.
- Training and Development: Design and deliver robust training programs that foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Incident Management: Lead the injury management process, ensuring successful return-to-work outcomes and minimisation of workplace injuries.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to influence and promote a proactive safety culture across the organisation.
To thrive in this role, you will possess the following experience and skills:
- Extensive experience across multiple industries - with a deep understanding of complex, dynamic and best practice approaches to health and safety.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering measured results and improvements in the OHS and Workcover space.
- Experience in safety leadership development, safety culture transformation, critical risk management, audit and assurance programs, reporting and contractor management.
- A commitment to continuous learning, encouraging high performance and working in a respectful environment via the lens of innovative and critical thinking
- Extensive experience in claims management, compliance and reporting.
- Proficiency in implementing and maintaining robust safety management systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong relationship-building capabilities with both internal and external stakeholders.
A Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline is preferred, or alternatively extensive, deep specialist experience in OHS and Workcover would also be considered. Experience working within an industrialised environment is essential.
