About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and customer-focused governance professional to join the Governance, Integrity, Legal and Risk team as a Governance Support Officer. Reporting to the Governance Coordinator, this position plays an important role in supporting Council's governance functions and ensuring legislative compliance across the organisation. The role has become available following a vacancy within the team and presents an excellent opportunity to contribute to a broad range of governance activities that support transparent and accountable decision-making across Council.
As Governance Support Officer, you will provide administrative and operational support across a diverse range of governance functions, including Council Meetings, audit and risk administration, Freedom of Information and Information Privacy processes, Councillor support functions, and citizenship ceremonies. You will be responsible for coordinating key governance documentation, maintaining governance systems and registers, supporting compliance activities, and providing high-quality advice and customer service to internal and external stakeholders. This role offers a unique opportunity to build your governance expertise while contributing to outcomes that strengthen Council's commitment to good governance, transparency and community service.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be a highly organised and detail-oriented professional with a strong commitment to customer service, accuracy and continuous improvement. You will have experience providing administrative support in a governance, compliance, corporate or similar environment and possess well-developed skills in preparing documentation, managing competing priorities and maintaining confidential information. You will be confident using a range of business systems and Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to quickly learn specialised governance platforms and processes. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and community. Experience supporting meetings, coordinating events, managing records, or working within a local government or regulated environment will be highly regarded. Most importantly, you will demonstrate a collaborative approach, sound judgement, initiative and a genuine commitment to supporting good governance practices and delivering high-quality outcomes.
