About the role
The Building Maintenance team is seeking a Civic Safety Officer. This role has been created to enhance safety and asset protection across key council facilities within the municipality.
The Civic Safety Officer will patrol and monitor designated Council facilities across the municipality to ensure safety, prevent asset loss or damage, deliver high-level customer service, and support the effectiveness of safety and security infrastructure. The role also provides high level customer service advice to precinct visitors and Council staff - to better assist in maximising the effectiveness of safety and security of infrastructure in and around civic precincts.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the following:
You will have a degree or diploma in Criminal Justice, Security, or Risk Management, or equivalent experience. You must hold a Certificate III/IV in Security and Risk Management or a current Security Guard license (Unarmed Guard, Control Room Operator) with relevant experience (minimum 3 – 5 years). Experience in public safety, interpreting regulations, investigations, and enforcement is essential. You must be available for weekend/evening shifts and overtime.

You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.
The successful candidate will be asked to produce a clear Working with Children Check and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws. Please note that people with criminal records are not automatically barred from applying for this position. The candidate will also require Victorian Driver’s Licence, and First Aid Level 2 & CPR certification. Each application will be considered on its merits.
